In the late 50s and early 60s Alex Neish was a member of a small group that ran Edinburgh University's student publications. He edited five issues of the political and literary magazine Jabberwock, culminating in the American issue in the autumn of 1959.
In the 1960s, he edited the quarterly review Sidewalk and contributed to the magazines Saltire Review and New Saltire.
